The R-32 refrigerant has a significantly lower global warming potential (GWP), reduced by 68% compared to R-410A, making it more environmentally friendly. It is gradually replacing R-410A, offering a more sustainable solution for air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Although more eco-friendly, R-32 is slightly flammable (A2L classification), requiring caution during installation.

Air conditioners transfer heat by circulating refrigerant between the indoor and outdoor units. While there are various types of refrigerants, R-32 is a new refrigerant currently attracting the most attention.

Because R-32 transfers heat more efficiently, it can reduce electricity consumption by up to approximately 10% compared to air conditioners using R-22. Additionally, compared to refrigerants widely used today, such as R-22 and R-410A, R-32 has a global warming potential (GWP) that is one-third lower and is notable for its low environmental impact. While R-32 also has zero ozone depletion potential, this refrigerant has only about one-third of the GWP of R-410A. As a result, research into this promising next-generation refrigerant has increased.

Currently, R-410A is the most commonly used refrigerant in developed countries. However, if all R-410A were replaced with R-32, the impact on global warming from HFCs in 2030 would be reduced by the CO2 equivalent of approximately 800 million tons (19%) compared to the continued use of R-410A.
