Automotive air conditioning hose (pipe) for R134a 10 mm - 1/2".
The operation of a car's air conditioning system is based on a circulatory system composed of various components. In this system, a refrigerant (freon) is compressed, liquefied, and releases heat. The refrigerant then evaporates again, absorbing heat and cooling the air, which is subsequently delivered to the vehicle’s interior through the air ducts.
The individual components of the cooling circuit are connected by a network of flexible hoses (pipes) through which the refrigerant can circulate. Flexible hoses are used throughout the air conditioning system in locations where rigid pipe connections would be impractical. Within the circuit, the pressure and temperature requirements of the refrigerant vary, so the hoses used must meet these corresponding specifications.
Additionally, hose dimensions often need to be adapted to the specific air conditioning system and usually consist of multiple layers of different plastics. The outer cover of the hose is often made of synthetic rubber with a PET or similar plastic reinforcement embedded. The interior of the hose has a special lining resistant to the refrigerant. Metal mesh coverings are sometimes also used.
Complete sealing of the hoses can often be affected by engine vibrations and operating conditions, and refrigerant may escape from the flexible hoses and other joints in the cooling circuit. Therefore, an annual inspection is recommended, as significant refrigerant loss can not only reduce performance but also damage the system’s compressor, potentially carrying away the lubricating oil from the crankcase.
