R417A is an ecological substitute for R22, suitable for medium-temperature air conditioning and refrigeration. It has a zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and significantly lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) compared to other refrigerants, making it an environmentally friendly choice. It is a non-toxic blend (R-125, R-134a, R-600) with slightly lower pressures than R22.

R417A is a blend composed of R-125 (46.6%), R-134a (50%), and R-600 (Isobutane 3.4%), designed for retrofitting air conditioning systems that originally used R-22.

R417A has slightly lower suction pressure and lower discharge pressure compared to R22. The lower operating pressures may affect valve performance or orifice selection. The blend has slightly lower efficiency than R22, particularly at lower suction temperatures.

The recommended lubricant for use with R417A is polyester oil.
